As KV Subramanian stepped down as the Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) to the union government, a face that was familiar to many, especially during the COVID-19 times, will be missed. He was an important part of the good-samaritan laws undertaken by the finance ministry during the tough times of COVID onset when the country’s economic stand was chaotic.

“Being provided the opportunity to contribute during a period of tremendous uncertainty and epochal change has been the lucky icing on the cake,” he has written in his parting letter which holds appreciation and reverence towards PM Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman among others.

This apart, what we also saw in the outgoing CEA, is a huge cricket fan.

While summing up his three year stint in the largest democracy’s finance ministry, he says, for the Economic Survey, he idolized the ways of cricket doyens Sourav Ganguly, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rahul Dravid.

“This process has taught me to carefully pick a team of talented and motivated professionals in a way that Sourav Ganguly exemplified, remaining calm while continually paddling underneath as Dhoni epitomized, and always putting the nation first in a way that Rahul Dravid demonstrated,” he writes.
