NITI Aayog aims to rebrand India as a study destination. “The strategy aims at improving the quality of tertiary education in India to create nationally and internationally competitive education by enhancing the capacity of higher education institutions, promoting industry-relevant education, and leveraging the strengths of traditional knowledge systems,” the government think tank says.

The report highlights the shared by the Ministry of Education which says that in 2018-2019 a total of 47,427 foreign students came to India. However, the data shows a disappointing trend which reveals more than 7,50000 students moving out of the country. The top destinations are Canada (1,07,650), USA (42,694), Australia (34,334), UK (19,505) and New Zealand (7883), as of 2018.

“Career opportunities, safe and clean environment, better labour laws, quality of education, etc., continue to be the major driving factors behind this movement,” the NITI Aayog says.
